Sometimes our minds and bodies need a reset or reboot button—just like we give our hardworking computers and smart devices a shutdown to cool off and start over, hitting pause occasionally, to readjust and remove the “extra gunk” that may be slowing the mind and body systems down is a really good thing! Whether you call it a detox or cleanse, there is no better time than spring to tackle a 3-day refresh shake that is aimed to assist you with the best belly/gut optimization (and lose some extra unwanted weight and toxins lingering around in the gut and body in the process!). And don’t worry if you do not claim to be a green juice, veggie, or salad lover. There are great, delicious, and healthy ways to detox (I’ll show you my favorite way), while optimizing your mind and body health, so you can feel and look as great as a spring chicken! My belly/gut green juice cleanse is for only 3-days, super straightforward, and easy to tackle.

As always, before starting any sort of detox, cleanse, new way of eating or exercise plan, please first discuss with your healthcare professional to ensure that you are good and clear. *

Why do people choose to hit the reset button in the first place? There are many different types of cleanses and detoxes out there on the market and searchable on Google. Some are popular, like the lemonade, cayenne pepper and maple syrup-Master Cleanse which is quite extreme for most people and lacks vital nutrients (do your research on the risks and benefits before committing to any programs), and some are just plain gross—like the chickpea or potato juice protocols.

Science has shown that our bodies follow nature’s rhythm, and just like seasons, there are starts and finishes to each of them. A nourishing and effective cleanse can act like a 3-day reboot, aimed to jumpstart the mind and body, breaking the cycle of dependence on saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, sugars, factory processed foods, excess stimulants, caffeine, and alcohol. Not only that, but decades of research also consistently shows that safe and effective cleanses can best break the cycle of food cravings that rob even the most health conscious of good energy and clear mental thinking by upregulating receptors in the brain and body responsible for hunger and satiety. In fact, poor food choices are one of the root causes of many chronic discomforts reported by people who suffer from unwanted body sensations, belly issues, extreme mood swings, unexplained or excessive weight gain and overall state of happiness.

My recommended 3-day juice cleanse smoothie is made with organic vegetable broth, which is balancing, alkalizing, a gut cleansing and whole-body energizing “elixir”. It is my own easy “go-to” reset/reboot--appropriate for most adults. Think of it as a whole body, organ system recovery and immune reboot, 3-day refresh support. In a nutshell, over the course of 3 consecutive days, you’ll simply make and drink this 32-ounce smoothie 3 times per day. Spacing each drink out every 4 hours and then following that up with a generous organic green salad or bowl of steamed dark leafy green veggies (like kale, spinach, broccoli, or Bok Choy) and a nice drizzle of extra virgin olive oil for your last meal each day. See? Easy peazzzzy.

This 3-day Super Green cleanse will allow your stomach to rest, so your digestive acids can begin rebalancing. Did you know that your gut works so hard year-round to boost your immune system (which go hand-n-hand with your gut lining health) and produce the feel-good hormone, serotonin? If you don’t have good belly health, chances are you won’t feel as healthy, energized or happy as you would if you implemented short 3-day breaks which would will allow digestion to optimize, the breakdown of foods to efficiently take place, the fiber and macronutrient rich foods that are eaten to be extracted and absorbed as energy and nutrients and ensure a stronger and more fortified stomach gut lining, intestinal and eliminatory health as the ultimate result.

A reset like this will also help recalibrate your liver enzymes, too. The liver is one of the biggest and hardworking organs necessary for total body detoxification. Optimal liver health will assist the body in eliminating harmful foods and drinks that you may otherwise reach for (making nutrient deficient or emotionally driven food craving decisions complicated and confusing). Your cells will produce energy more efficiently, as a juice reset encourages rehydration of your body fluids and blood and regulate hormones and metabolism.

Aside from making this elixir three times a day, hydration is extremely important. Aim for 80-100 ounces of clean water to flush toxins out of the body.

You will make and have this Super Green shake 3 times a day. Start off having 1st shake for breakfast and then repeat 2 more times after every 4 hours. In the evening for meal 4 you will have a green salad. You can use any nutrient rich, dark leafy greens such as kale, arugula, broccoli, cucumbers, Brussel sprouts, watercress, or asparagus. Please also add 1 tablespoon or extra virgin olive oil as dressing and skip the salt.

Your meals for the day will be 4 total (3 shakes and 1 salad or heap of steamed greens in the evening).

Unfortunately, to maximize the benefits of this cleanse, coffee during these 3 days is discouraged, but feel free to have up to 3 cups of organic oolong, matcha or green tea for energy and additional antioxidants. (And no to alcohol or soda drinks, either.)

Additional Guidelines:

You should not exercise during these 3 days – No cardio, yoga, or weights. Walking is encouraged, however.
