RedShed CrossFit spotlight
Every week HYLETE shines the spotlight on certified trainer, gym owner, or service league member. We do this to show our appreciation for leaders in the HYLETE nation and the functional fitness community.
RedShed CrossFit: Patrick Neill
Why you opened your gym: ""I was working as a contractor for a major communications corporation, who was experiencing major financial distress due to the 2006-2007 economic downturn and my job was cut. I became an Affiliate Owner in 2008, starting my business in a 340 sqft. garage. In 9 months I moved into a 1200 sqft. store front where we survived for 4 years. During that time, finances were tough and I had to re-enter the corporate fitness work force in order to keep the gym open. It took a major toll on me and my family... to the point where we were ready to sell the business to a couple who were great friends and clients. Before the decision was final, I had a two hour conversation with a young athlete, who I was mentoring at the time. He convinced me to create a partnership with the couple, instead of selling the business and walking away from all I had built over the past 5 years. Thanks to him, I came to realize my wealth came to me in the form of my love and passion for coaching and creating fitness.""
Your favorite piece of equiptment: ""Concept II Rowers, Assault Bikes, and Sleds""
Advice for other gym owners: ""Know who you are and what you want. Do you want to just own a business where you have trainers who teach out-sourced scripted programs and run the clock? Or, do you want to have your business be a direct reflection of YOU, your knowledge, experience and passion... your willingness to fail and persevere... your eagerness to learn and grow... and your ability to lead.
Favorite HYLETE gear: ""I love all of your stuff... especially the shorts. I won't train in any other pair of shorts!""
