In honor of Military Appreciation Month, we asked military spouse, Kayla Narramore what it's like to be married to her husband, Mason, that is in Marine Corps. Here's what she had to say:

Can you tell us about your husband and family?

My husband, Mason, has been in the Marine Corps for just over 10 years. We’ve been together for 8 years and this July will mark 7 years of marriage! We have two little boys, Kane (3) and Maddox (1.5).

Describe one of your most vivid military moments together.

Oh boy, this life makes for so many memories, it’s hard to choose! But I would say his re-enlistment ceremonies are always my favorite and most proud moments with him. Watching my husband stand in front of his fellow marines, with his right hand raised in the air, promising to continue to serve his country no matter what the sacrifice is a moment that’s hard to describe. It fills me with so much pride and patriotism to stand by his side and know that my husband is one of the heroes serving our great nation!

What is the best advice you'd give to new military spouses?

The best advice I can give is to learn about the branch your service member serves in. The more knowledgeable you become with the traditions, the respect, the chain of command, the camaraderie, the history, and the true brotherhood of your husband’s branch, the more you will understand your spouse & you’ll gain a whole new respect for him and everything he does. Also, have a strong heart and mind. Understand that the military is going to play a part in every aspect of your life. You can either fight this, or accept it. You’re part of something bigger than yourself, your husband, and your marriage. That’s something to be proud of!

What do you love most about being a military spouse?

I love being a military spouse because I know I’m part of something bigger than myself. Military families continually make sacrifices so our nation’s heroes can continue to serve & protect the freedoms that the American people hold so dear. I’m proud to stand by my husband’s side and keep the home fires burning as he does his part to serve our country.
