Staying Active As a Family

Why do you think it is important for families to stay active together?
Kids model their behavior after their parents. If you teach kids to stay active when they are young, they will do it forever. It also strengthens the family bond.
What are some of your favorite workouts to do together as a family?
Obstacle courses that the kids design, band work, bodyweight workouts, jump rope, sprinting, bike rides, and running.
Why do you love to work out with your kids?
I love to see them active. Too many kids are glued to their electronics and mobile devices. It gives them a chance to move and stay healthy.
What do you hope to instill in your kids through working out as a family?
That exercise and fitness is something that they can carry with them forever.
Do you have any tips on how to make fitness a part of a family’s routine?
Block out time. Actually schedule it so it doesn’t get put on the back burner.
How do you motivate your kids to stay active?
By example and occasionally incentives like extra tv time.
What has been one of your proud dad moments with your kids?
For my older boys, to see them compete in sports and grow into men. For my younger kids, to see them want to follow in our footsteps with fitness.
How do you balance being a dad and having a successful career in fitness?
Time management. I’m very involved with my kids as a father so I try to optimize my time. It’s definitely not easy. I want to spend as much time as I can with them when they are young because when they get older, you don’t see them as much. Owning a studio, social media responsibilities, marriage, kids....it’s all a balancing act.
